My Hope. My Vision.

by Wandia Chiuri

I'm really excited about the development of the new community site. My hope is that we will be able to attract and connect great thinkers all over the world. I hope people who are committed to leaving a legacy by making a meaningful difference in the lives of others will get momentum here and find a cause they can believe in.

Everyone deserves access to real opportunity, the opportunity to live beyond survival. Yet many people are born in poverty, surrounded by a society in calamity. I have learnt alongside peers who are striving to build billion dollar companies and lived with peers who were strugglinging to put the next meal on their table. The difference between these two has rarely been effort or ability. Its been access to resources. Resources serve as the jump off point that enable us to dream and from our dreams come the actions that build - a better future for us, for our children and for generations to come.

The right solutions to the real problems are among us. We can find the answers.

We are proposing an online platform of people who are interested in global issues and creating positive change.  Our vision is to create a community with people everywhere actively engaged and connected in shaping a more inclusive, peaceful and sustainable world. Our mission is to enable a collaborative learning forum which provides committed individuals with access to global opportunities, cross-cultural connections and meaningful participation in decision-making - a more dynamic and reciprocal form of international development and cooperation.

Let's address the obstacles - social, political and economic - and to help people escape from the bondage of poverty to become self-sustaining individuals. We embody Maji Mazuri's principle of holistic, community-based approaches to addressing socio-economic inadequacies. After all, “Maji Mazuri” in Swahili means “good water” the well spring of life and hope and that is the core of what Maji Mazuri is all about.

Through a global network of informed and empowered individuals we hope to contribute to a more equitable world.  We invite you to participate and become part of this revolutionary community.

  • A Lesson in the Sunset
A crimson hue melted across the western sky as the cool, crisp evening breeze grazed the back of my neck. Graciously, I moved a little closer to the fire. Martha, the school cook, was preparing the evening meal for the students of the Upper Matasia School. A young girl approached…

  • The projects...
While appreciating the growth in each of the projects since then, of key note is Maji Mazuri Children’s Centre, Kasarani. We have watched as the children have transited from one level to the other, with enduring encouragement from the staff ...one example is a young man who came to the…

  • How it all started...
On 5th January 2006 I walked into the Maji Mazuri Head office as a volunteer after responding to an ad in one of the local dailies... four years later, I can confidently say it was one of the best decisions I ever made... I have watched Maji Mazuri grow under…
