2023 Food Programme

Hunger is a widespread problem in developing countries, and Kenya is no exception. In Mathare slums, Nairobi, the Maji Mazuri Headstart school is providing a much-needed solution through their free school feeding program. Every day, the school feeds 550 children a nutritious breakfast and lunch, giving them the energy and nutrients they need to learn and grow. However, the cost of sustaining this program has increased, and that's why we're asking for your help to ensure that these children don't go hungry.

Maji Mazuri Headstart school is a community-based primary school located in Mathare slums, Nairobi, Kenya. The school offers a free school feeding program to 550 children every day, from Monday to Friday. The pupils receive 10 o'clock porridge and a balanced lunch meal from the school, in addition to accessing quality basic education and robust talent development programs. The school has built an essential social safety net for the vulnerable children in the local community to access education through this program. The feeding program has significantly improved children's enrollment in the school and reduced absenteeism. Regular school attendance by the children has improved their academic performance, and every year, several children join national secondary schools from Maji Mazuri.

Despite the successes of the program, the cost of common foodstuff items continues to rise, making it increasingly difficult for the school to sustain the important service to the children. Many of the children look forward to the school meal, especially during these tough economic times when most households cannot afford a meal every day. We cannot let them go hungry.

We are launching a fundraising campaign dubbed "Plate for Education" to help us sustain this critical service to our children. By donating towards this campaign, you are sharing your love with these vulnerable children and helping them to remain in school and access education, thereby transforming their future.

We also invite in-kind donations, which can be dropped off at the school located in Mathare slums, Nairobi county, along Juja road, opposite Moi Air Base barracks main gate. You can also reach out to us to collect your support from any point through 0713192939 or 0715733196 or mmc@sedsmmc.org.

Together, we can make a difference in the lives of these children and provide them with the opportunity to reach their full potential.
