Maji Mazuri United Kingdom (MMUK) was established in 1999 by the current secretary, Heidi Konig, following two visits by her to Kenya in 1994 and 1997. She was highly impressed by the energy and commitment of the projects then being undertaken but noted how limited they were by lack of funding. As a result, a branch of Maji Mazuri was registered as a UK charity in order to facilitate fund-raising in the UK for the support of all the organisation's work in Kenya. The trustees were chosen because of their experience in Africa generally and of Maji Mazuri Kenya specifically. They are Alan Rayden, Robert Costin and Peter Konig. All have been involved from the beginning and take an active role in the running of the Trust.
MMUK has supported the development of a wide range of MM projects in Kenya, most notably the building and expansion of a new training faciltiy in Kiserian in 2000. On that occasion, MMUK supported teams of British school pupils to visit Kenya where they helped to build the new vocational training centre . In addition, since then, a number of significant amounts of money have been sent to support further development in Kiserian and elsewhere. MMUK continues to send as much funding as possible for project work in Kenya and, as a result, all donations are transferred complete. We are proud of the fact that UK expenses are met by volunteers working with the charity and overheads are kept to an absolute minimum.
