In Kenya, many children do not have access to elementary school education. Building fees, cost of books, uniforms, and food keep these children away from the classroom doors.
In a joint effort of The Rotary Club of Dayton Ohio USA and The Rotary Club of Muthaiga (Nairobi) Kenya, the clubs took on this remarkable project with the primary goal of rescuing orphans from Mathare Valley and children at risk.
Rotary International (RI) and Rotary Distruct 6670 provide matching grants.

Phase One is completed.

Phase 2A and Phase 2B are well under way.

Kiseria now provides a safe and self-sufficient farm in the Kenyan countryside where the children live and learn. Currently the kiserian project runs its activities on wind, solar and biogas energy.
Several of the elements, such as the Clinic (groundbreaking was May 1, 2010) and Farm Industry Building construction have already been "adopted." Construction of the clinic is complete and equipage is beginning.

The biggest need is to secure funding to complete the construction of the 10,000 square foot education building which has been started (Groundbreaking was May 1, 2010 - see progress photos in the Feb 14, 2011 update posted in left column). About $16,000 is needed to continue construction to completion.

The Phase 2 Adoption Posting (As Of February 14, 2011) reflects opportunities for clubs and individuals to sponsor part of the project while getting matching RI/TRF Funding for non-construction elements. Major support for the school construction has come from Tipp City Rotary and Dayton Rotarians Tom Laufersweiler and Tom Becker. Learn more about the project and read the full update with photographs as of February 2011.
The children at the site all created drawings thanking Rotarians for helping build their new school - samples of those drawings are in the report below.
