Sponsor a Child

One mission of Maji Mazuri is to support and empower hundreds of orphans and vulnerable children to lead successful and productive lives. By helping a child get a good education we give them a shot, a chance to experience the fullness of life.
One mission of Maji Mazuri is to support and empower hundreds of orphans and vulnerable children to lead successful and productive lives. By helping a child get a good education we give them a shot, a chance to experience the fullness of life.

What does it take to help?

You can sponsor a child in pre-school or elementary school for $30 per month. This covers the cost of their food, the mandatory school uniform, stationery and books. It also provides  personal items such as toiletries and underwear and helps with housing costs.

Or you can  sponsor a young person at a boarding high school for a monthly cost of $70. This covers the full cost of their food, housing, school fees, the mandatory school uniform, stationery and books. It also provides personal items such as toiletries and underwear.

Please bear in mind that sponsorship is a longer term commitment. While you can end your payments at any time, for the sake of the children, we like sponsors to think in terms of 2 to 4 years of support.

How does sponsorship work?

It is very straightforward. First complete a sponsorship form and e-mail or mail it to us, and we decide together which child you will be sponsoring.

Then you can either send regular checks to Maji Mazuri USA here in Atlanta or set up a regular electronic transfer from your bank account to ours. Maji Mazuri USA is registered with the IRS as a non profit public charity and we will issue tax receipts for your donations at the end of each year.

100% of the money you send us is sent directly to Maji Mazuri Kenya and is spent on the project that is caring for the sponsored children – the Maji Mazuri Head Start project in the Mathare Valley slum; the Maji Mazuri Children’s Center; the Maji Mazuri Elementary School or the Upper Matasia School.

Maji Mazuri USA is staffed by volunteers who accept no remuneration.

What do I receive, as a sponsor?

A photograph and profile of the child that you have agreed to sponsor. We will send a new photograph and profile every year.

At least 2 reports each year telling you how your child is developing in terms of health, education and maturity.

The opportunity to send letters or cards to your child (but no gifts or extra money, please, in the interests of fairness to other children)

Tuition and other school supplies costs only 2 dollars a day, but for 23% of families that live off a dollar a day, that fee is astronomical. Poverty has robbed them of hope and threatens to steal their future.
