Canada Helps
Through fundraising activities and solicitations for donations, Maji Mazuri Canada provides financial support to the Center in Kenya to maintain its programs, namely:
1) Child sponsorship program
2) Mavuno microloan program
3) Construction of new facilities
Donors who are looking to provide continuous, long-term support may choose to participate in the child sponsorship program. The monthly fees associated with child sponsorship cover the cost of food, mandatory school uniform, stationary and books, and personal items such as toiletries. One hundred percent of the money sent to Maji Mazuri Canada for child sponsorship is sent directly to Maji Mazuri Kenya and is spent on the project that is caring for the sponsored child (the Head Start project in the Mathare Valley slum, the Maji Mazuri Children’s Center, the Maji Mazuri Elementary School at Kiserian and the Upper Matasia School).
Another initiative is to construct Kiserian school buildings and facilities. The Microloan program is a cooperative of entrepreneurs, who through a self-replenishing fund are able to take small loans and start a business.
